Portraiture is more than the representation of the face. It reveals the personality, the experience, the situation, or the spirit of the subject. Black and white portraiture, in particular, removes the distraction of color and focuses on what matters most in the portrait. Almost all of these are "environmental portraits," taken where the person lives or works or plays. Today, I only make these portraits on location, using available light as much as possible.
